November Meeting

Shelly Case has a new cookbook coming out December of 2005 full of her old books and lots of new information. Watch for that for the upcoming holiday season!!

ATTENTION: Gluten-Free/Safe Oatmeal !!! Cream Hill Estates has done extensive research and testing and are now a dedicated source of SAFE OATMEAL. They are currently offering FREE samples of their oatmeal if you fill out a survey on their website www.creamhillestates.com. Just remember that if you do get a sample, keep it refriderated!!! The shelf life is not very long. Also, expect it to be mail order until they are more established.

The conference a Moorhead, ND was full of new information and products.

Nutritionist Shelly Case recommends that celiacs look to use more teff, quinoa and amaranth in their baking as these have a higher nutritional value than the rice flours. The vinegar issue was considered a "dead issue" as it was agreed that distilled vinegar does not contain glutenHowever, watch out for flavored and malted vinegars as they do contain gluten.

There is a new beer on the market. Stay tuned for more on that.

A couple of new products introduced at the conference were pizzas by Madwoman Foods. They are available at most of the food coops in the Cities, and a few of the grocery chains there as well. Go to www.madwomanfoods.com for more information.

Also introduced was a company called PURFOODS. They offer ready to eat foods, delivered to your door. For more information on this company and what they offer, go to www.GlutenFreeMeals.com or call 1-866-942-7873. They are based out of Akney, IA.

A website that may be of interest to you is: www.celiacdiseasecenter.columbia.edu.

REMINDER: Any information that you may have that is 2 years or older, you should throw out and update. New products are becoming available that are gluten-free and we would hate to see you missing out on them!!!

For example: VanCamps Pork and Beans are Gluten-free.

Events Coming your Way

  • Next Meeting:

Dec 8th @ 7pm - New Luverne Hospital We are having a Cookie Exchange. If this is something you do not wish to participate in, that is fine.  We understand that, especially if you are newly diagnosed, you may not feel ready to share your baking yet.  And some of us just aren't bakers anyway - no problem! Come to the meeting anyway, just don't bring anything. Those participating will bring thier own containers and help themselves to a take home assortment of the goodies brought by others.

Everyone who wishes to participate should bring something to share. Some suggestions are: two or three dozen bars/cookies;  a bowl of snackies with a scoop, cup or large spoon to scoop into small snack bags/containers;  mini loaves of quick breads;  recipe;   Also remember:  an empty container or plate or zip lock to take goodies home, small snack or sandwich bags for the "snackies type" treats

NO Meeting in January

Feb 6th @ 7pm - New Luverne Hospital
